Experience Superhero Therapy and learn to set boundaries, speak up and shine!

“Dramatic,” “crazy,” “overly emotional” – these are just some of the ways in which women have been described when simply expressing their needs and feelings. As result, many women might suppress their emotions, as well as their own voices. Numerous empirical studies demonstrate the evidence of adverse psychological effects of invalidation, emotional abuse, and emotion suppression.

In her new book, psychologist Dr. Janina Scarlet, explores the themes in pop culture stories like Star Wars, Harry Potter, Wonder Woman, and the Avengers to help people find deeper understanding and better coping with their mental health. This event will focus on strategies that people who identify as women can utilize in discovering their voice, setting boundaries, and helping them to manage their anxiety and PTSD through popular culture stories, such as Batwoman, Jessica Jones, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, as well as how others can support them. Capes are optional.

Janina will be joined by special guest Christy Jedigoddess, a pop culture historian and the illustrator of Janina's new book: Super-Women: Discovering our Inner Strengths Through Pop Culture.
